A fantastic experience that is a must do. The guided tour was extremely informative. There is so much to do here. The Waitangi house has recently been refurbished and the museum is also new. We spent hours here leaning about the wonderful Maori culture.
Im really glad we booked the tour, got more information and insight about the treaty and the grounds and the surrounding plants. I think if we didn’t book with the tour we would’nt have a clue and much more knowledge of the surroundings. The marae/ powhiri and maori entertainment was fantastic. Such talented individuals. Definitely worth doing. Vinaka vaka levu, Sereana Bebenisala.
Found my visit to the treaty grounds really interesting. It's worth paying the extra for a guided tour, I don't know where I'd have begun otherwise. The cultural performance was also excellent. The grounds are really pretty with excellent views of the Bay.
An amazing resource! Be sure to leave plenty of time to explore the museum upstairs, main exhibit, the historic buildings, the wakas, and the delicious restaurant.
Joey our guide was excellent in the way he told us all about Waitangi - the treaty, the war canoe, the Treaty house and The Flagstaff. We also liked the way he referred to us Aussies as friends and Allies. We really enjoyed the cultural performance especially the way everything they did was explained to us. The museum was well laid out and interesting - we could’ve spent a long time there. The whole experience was well worth our entry fee.
Was really great experience highly recommend to anyone!
The guided tour is a must with excellent guides and I really enjoyed the cultural performance as it was done with sense of performance and fun that I think was a good balance. Museum and grounds with sea views complete the package and easily worth half a day to fully appreciate it including the cafe (just outside) that served good quality food.
If you come to the Bay of Islands visiting the Treaty grounds at Waitangi are a MUST! Ive been numerous times and every time I see something different, I learn a bit more each time and have the best day. Our guide John was amazing so informative and had all of our attention the whole time. We finished our day with the cultural experience listening, watching and learning about waiata, poi and taiaha. See you all again soon!
It was a full day of great experience and learning about New Zealand culture and heritage! Great concert from the local Maori group. The largest war canoe built by the Maori is fascinating and a real piece of art too. All museums were great and very informative. Great and knowledgeable guides too. Highly recommend it to everyone!
My husband and I had a great afternoon at Waitangi Treaty Grounds. A convenient short walk from the wharf with friendly staff ready to greet you. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining as he showed around the grounds and the war canoes. The new museum is fantastic with its interactive displays but best of all was the cultural performance. The team with their amazing singing and dancing were the highlight. Excellent!
The Museum’s static displays are very informative and are well put together - a credit to the volunteers who o his n. Shoe string budget. Th NZ government shoul be more supportive it’s finding. The tour guide was very entertaining and knowledgeable. The cultural performance was excellent and very professional. A great day out for all visitors to obtain a short history lesson on New Zealand - with enough detail to keep it real and interesting
What an amazing day well spent at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. I loved the relaxed non commercial cultural show and our tour guide was informative and knowledgeable and funny. After a wonderful lunch at the whare Kai we headed into the museum...and emerged 3 hours later with a whole collection of new facts and thoughts. What an awesome way to pass a wet Sunday.
Booking online was much cheaper than the cruise excursion and the town's shuttle bus to the Treaty Grounds was fantastic. Guided tour was excellent and the headsets meant everyone could hear the guide whilst wandering around the area. The Cultural Performance was wonderful, informative and entertaining. It was a great outing.
The guided tour of the treaty grounds was very informative. The ear piece given to listen to the guide was very handy as sometimes it is quite hard for everyone to hear such things. When we were out by the wakas, there were alot of children around with a school group, and so that made it hard to listen. Meeting house show was a bit of a laugh
It is great. I could learn Maori dance and history there.
I spent a good time into the Treaty of Whitiangi, really interesting guide and history, I particulary enjoyed the show of the maoris! And beautiful view of the Bay of Island ! I recommended !
I had the most enjoyable time. The mix of history, culture and entertainment were amazing. The natural landscapes, facilities and attitudes of all people involved are to be commended. What an amazing presentation and representation of New Zealand. Thank you for an enjoyable day.
Had an excellent experience. Would recommend looking around the museum prior to the guided tour as it makes more sense that way. Cultural experience was fantastic and we got to take pics with the performers afterwards.
The treaty grounds presents the cultural history of New Zealand brilliantly! Well worth a visit! I visited in August with my son and had a personal tour with John - had the same tour on this visit with other friends and my husband and John again took the tour but a large group and was still as interesting! The man knows his history and his passion for his job shines through as he answered questions and queries! The cultural performance was splendid and ended the tour brilliantly!
Had a fab afternoon at the treaty grounds. Lots to do and all the guides are very knowledgeable and friendly! Definitely join one of the guided tours and the cultural performance if you have time as they are both amazing.
I am a kiwi and I had not been to see where the Treaty was signed. I’m glad I did it. If you are a resident you need to take the time and go visit the most iconic place where a fundamental moment in time happened for our country. Believe me there is lots to learn. I have read and studied the treaty and I still learnt more. Go with an open mind and heart. You will be surprised.
I really enjoyed the day, amazing guide tours and maori experience. Real history, so much to learn about. Thanks for the deal. ?
As an overseas visitor the Treaty Grounds gave me valuable knowledge and understanding about NZ and it’s people.
A very educational experience. It is good for the kids. Highly recommended.
Awesome guided tour best part of our journey especially the performance ... love love love yous
Museum has good information about Maori history and culture and how New Zealand as a country was formed. Great performances from dancers and background knowledge from guided tour. Nice bay views from the grounds. Highly recommended.
The day pass kicked off with the Cultural Performance. This was a high energy and fun show presented by a very talented team of Maori performers. A guided tour took us through the grounds and provided a knowledgeable and informative overview of the local history, culture and of regional and national heritage. A pleasant bite to eat at the cafe and then a walk through the museum which depicts a chronological history of discovery, colonisation, conflict and national unification. Well worth a visit, highly recommend it.
This is a must see activity for both locals and overseas visitors. You need to devote a day to take full advantage of the tour, cultural activity, museum visit, Treay House & Meeting House visits and wood carving workshop as well as to just enjoy the gardens and surrounds. It is an extra special deal with bookme.co.nz. Fantastic value!
The tour was informative & the cultural performance was good. My toddlers actually sat through it which was a bonus. Museum was excellent and I would have spent hours there if I didn’t have little kids in tow. The staff couldn’t find my booking but sorted it out with no dramas and one of the ladies was really helpful when we were a few minutes late for the tour. They’ve definitely poured some $$ into this place.
