Our guide Kraig is very knowledgeable and friendly. Small group tour allows our guide to cater more time to the intinary which provides better experience than big tour bus and flexi tour. Will definitely book other tour which cheeckykiwitour
The trip was nice and comfortable!
Thank you Linda for such an amazing tour and transfer service. Your attention to detail and kindness went a long way in making me feel welcome. I appreciate all the help and information on other things to do in the area as well.
Geoffrey is a good guide to lead us to see wonderland, he gave us enough time to visit whole theme park , I did really enjoy this tour and thank him so much!
Marvellous nature beauty
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our morning with Geoff. He is a very friendly and knowledgable tour guide and we could both happily listen to him speak about New Zealand all day long. Wai-O-Tapu is a MUST DO trip for anyone traveling through Rotorua. We contemplated using the Intercity busses however they involve a rediculously long walk when you get there so definitely avoid! The other tour companies seem very poor value for money considering what you get with Arden Hybrid Tours. It was our first time using ‘Book Me’ and we were nervous but fear not as it proved to be very reliable and easy and we will continue to use it in New Zealand. My only regret is that we don’t have longer in Rotorua as I would have loved to have joined Geoff again for another one of his tours. Thank you again Geoff!
A bit smelly but it's a must do.
Enthusiastic and informative driver :)Nice place to visit for about 2 hours! I prefer it to waitomo caves or hobbiton village (these are too expensive and not as expected)
Leisurely walk downhill with plenty of viewpoints. The walk does not need to be rushed, we had time for a pre-packed lunch at the picnic tables. We would recommend this to anyone visiting the Rotorua - Taupo region. Boat trip was informative with a close-up view of a geyser.
Wonderful experience! Recommend going earlier in the morning or later in the day as it was quite hot when we went in the middle of the day... Definitely take water, sunscreen, hat and comfy walking shoes... The natural beauty is surreal, definitely recommend!! ?
We spent a lovely three hours walking then boating through New Zealands newest geothermal area. Signage along the way was informative and interesting and helped us appreciate the devastation and extent of the Mt Tarawera eruption. The four kilometre walk to the lake was mostly downhill with lots of stops along the way to marvel at Mother Nature's wrath! A shuttle bus took us back up the hill after the boat trip. I really recommend this fascinating place, the only thing missing is dinosaurs!
Such an interesting part of New Zealand. Our family with 2 teenagers loved this experience. A full sensory experience of native bush, varied landscapes and animals. Fascinating history. Well worth the visit.
We absolutely loved this experience, we took our three daughters ages 10, 8 and 4 and they all loved it and were able to complete the whole walk (minus the hike) easily. They loved spotting the numbers along the way and learning about each spot. The information given at the beginning was well done. Frying pan lake and the bright blue Inferno Crater Lake were hightlights. We all loved the boat trip and it was amazing to see where the pink and white terraces were once on display. The bus ride back was an exciting bonus for the kids. We would highly recommend this activity.
Amazing place. Beautiful walk down the valley, Inferno Crater is a must see, then a cruise on Lake Rotomahana, with excellent commentary by Pete the skipper. We caught the bus back up the valley to the tearooms as it was raining quite heavily. A must visit attraction - you will not be disappointed!
Both my daughter and I absolutely loved the Waimangu Volcanic Valley walk and boat cruise. Stunning nature with all the volcanic activities so close to us. We loved the boat cruise too. Big thumbs up for the captain of the boat. He explained everything in such a good way with the kindest and caring voice. We'll definitely be back doing it all again one day. Kindest regards, Hope & Ingrid ?
Wow 🤩 Having been to most Tourist destinations in Rotorua this was an unexpected surprise and for lovers of the natural world, i can not recommend it more highly. The walk through the valley offered endless views of different types of geothermal activity, streams, lakes and native Bush/birds. It really is a hidden wonderland and accessible to those of all ages (I had a 3 and 6 year old in tow). Lake Rotomahana Boat trip was excellent offering history and more geothermal activity unseen to me before. Staff were outstanding and went out of their way to accomodate us.
We loved the Waimangu Volcanic Valley full experience. The walking track was easy to follow and in good condition. The views were amazing! The boat cruise was definitely worthwhile and you get a different perspective of the landscape from the water. Would definitely recommend.
Plan to spend the day there. Take good walking shoes, drinks, snacks even a picnic, do all the tracks, read all the most informative panels, enjoy the birdlife on the lakeshore. There were 7 spoonbills on top of all the other expected species when I was there. Weather was superb which did help too. Warning: toilets only at the entrance and half way down the valley. Be prepared!
This park is a must do - you have to see the sights to believe it. So other-worldly, amazing. We had fantastic weather which added to the serenity. If short on time I wouldn’t put the cruise in the ‘must do’ category, I would have been satisfied with just seeing the geo-thermal sights. But it was nice as a peaceful way to soak in more of the beauty of the area and you do see a couple other interesting features, so I’m glad we did it. Wear comfortable shoes as it is a decent walk on a gravel pathway.
Great family fun! Lots to see and friendly staff!
Take in the views with this self guided tour. Glance at it or read along with your map. Your choice. Fantastic staff and memories to last a lifetime.
The walking around was good. Scenery was amazing, boat ride was a bit disappointing.
We enjoyed walking through the park, reading the info boards and info pamphlet that we were provided on arrival. Didn't have enough time to do the hike, we'll be back to do that! Really enjoyed the boat ride (take warm gear, gloves if it's not summer), learned heaps and had no real understanding of the Mt Tarawera Volcanic eruption - now we do! Staff were awesome, we were welcomed immediately and the visit made our week long stay on Lake Tarawera even more fascinating! We weren't that interested in checking out the buried village - now we know more, we are! Also, always been fascinated by the pink and white terraces so to learn there was a third.... Very cool! Only thing I would have changed was our choice to select a ticket with entry at 12.30pm. If I did it again, I'd buy a full price ticket and go when it opened so we could stop and have breaks/snacks/lunch in the valley along the way. You can get through it quite fast, but we do enjoyed it that we would have spent the entire day! Thanks team, and mad props for creating such an enjoyable experience during challenging times in the tourism industry.
We had a fantastic walking down into the valley. It was very special to be able to walk among nature the whole way. The paths are well signposted and pass through spectacular geothermal areas, and the viewing areas are well placed and well maintained. Loved the art work on the way and the differences in landscape. Sadly we missed the final part - the wetland area to Lake Rotomahana as we were concerned we could miss the boat cruise. The boat cruise was very informative and it was fantastic to see Mount Tarawera up close. Thoroughly recommend to all and would happily go again.
Really great experience for locals showing off to visitors!
tino pai! sis not know of this since we came in 2018, so went today even on rainy day, still incredible. self guided walk is 4km but easy path, mostly flat. map with an explanation of each point is full of information so it is really easy and interesting to walk by yourself your own pace. if you get tired and still have to catch boat there is three bus stops along the way that you can simply hop in the bus, same as after boat guide, they take you directly back to the car if you are all done. boat & guide were fantastic, he was so full of knowledge and showed sightseeing you cannot see walking! truly recommend !
It was an amazing experience to discover Waimangu Volcanic Valley. I totally recommend! I will come back. Thanks to the whole team.
The environment keeps changing around you with the colours and landscape. It's a great walk and quite easy to do in the allotted time before the cruise. Definitely one of the better thermal attractions in Rotorua in terms of how diverse the walk is. The lake cruise is beautiful and you get awesome views of Mt Tarawera and learn about the history of the area from the commentary.
We walked down and we loved the valley and the cruise. However we took the Mt Haszard hiking trail which would be great if you want some exercise but is not great if you are looking for anything extra, as the hike didn't offer any special views just tired legs due to lots of stairs up - over 40 floors up according to my fitbit and then the same back down. Don't do the extra hike unless you like walking up and down steep stairs.
Great walking tracks. Picked a relatively sunny day for our visit which I think made a difference (rain arrived as we got to the boat ramp). Would definitely recommend a visit. Finished off with the boat tour. If we weren't pushed for time would have been keen to do more of the track walks. Buses are on hand to give you a lift back to the centre or drop you in between stops if needed (or if you're not keen on walking back up that hill :-) ).
Lovely day out! Interesting history, and natural beauty to explore. Friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend.
Seeing God's creation and walking into it relieves stress from city life. We had this walk last January and again this February. We will never get tired of going there especially with new friends and family.
Fantastic walk with so much to see! It was amazing and the boat ride at the end is the perfect way to top it off. 100% would do it again
