Amazing!
Enjoyed our day @ the Castle and the day was clear with brillant sunshine and no fog so views wonderful. However we would not have gone if it was not for the us been able 2 access a cheaper entry to both castle and grounds with a book one voucher. The normal fees r far 2 much especially if u r on a pension and trying 2 make ends meet. The house & gardens are lovely and so much more developed since we saw them 43yrs ago as a young couple.and it was great that we were able 2 walk our two older border collies in the gardens as we explored.
We thoroughly enjoyed this activity. The history and restoration or rather ongoing restoration is truly incredible. The gardens are spectacular!! The view from the tower is a must see.
We visited on a miserable day but were pleasantly surprised how warm it was inside . We didn't find out until later that you can pay a little extra to get an audio tour which we will definitely purchase for on our next visit. Our 11 yr olds and a 14 yr old also loved it too . Because we saved money by purchasing on bookme we spent our saving and more in the cafe , it feels like the least we could do in these tough times . The food too was top notch . We will definitely return again in the summer , can't wait to see the gardens on a nice day . The hubby was not at all keen to visit but now planning our next trip, he is telling everyone how much he enjoyed it .
Really cool visiting this castle/mansion. Gardens are beautiful. Go early. Miss the cruise ships & grab the early bird special $20 entry :)
Excellent experience. Lovely gardens and the tour guide was great explaining the history of Larnach Castle.
Beautiful place and scenery and interesting history.
Really nie views but rainning for the whole day. That is really a shame without watching the gardens inside
Very cool place. The view from the tower is amazing. Would have been an interesting place to live in.
Nice overcast still day, moody and a nice day to have day 1 in Dunedin exploring Lanarch Castle. Lovely grounds, such a talented castle built, been so looked after and a good history lesson learnt. A few steps walked today.
We were the first to arrive as we had limited time and given a warm welcome, clear directions, then enjoyed informative displays and a video, before rambling through the castle. The views over the peninsula from the tower were beautiful, made more special because we had walked and driven over that area in preceding days. A coffee in the ballroom beside the open fireplace, prepared us for a quick ramble in the garden and our car trip back north.
Worth the drive up the hillside to see the splendor of the Grand castle
Beautiful castle/stately home, with interesting history. We visited on a really stunning day and it looked so lovely in the sunshine. Beautiful gardens to explore too. Can understand wanting to keep them immaculate but such a shame you can't bring your dog to wander through the gardens too.
Absolutly Amazing experience, My children thought it was Scary but I felt it took me back in the old days in a Castle I felt like a princess and it was my kingdom, The grounds was spectacular would have love too see the ocean but the mist or fog was so bad but gave it that real fantasy over looking the Castle, The top lookout was breath taking did feel like it was rocking/unstable as you go higher and higher but so real experience this is. The gift shop was Awesome and the lion statues on entrance was Massive only let down was needed more props in bedrooms and didnt get why there was a glass screen in one of the rooms. Loved the way you can touch and feel the experience too. Also a lovely lady was so kind and helped us tour a little which was great didnt go to cafe but next time I will.
The family who own the only Castle in New Zealand have really preserved it to the correct period in history. Just amazing and beautiful architecture! It was raining at the time of our visit and probably would of enjoyed the grounds better if it were sunny.
Have been to Dunedin several times and was looking for something different to do. Enjoyed visiting Larnach Castle & gardens a lot more then I thought I would! Such a top spot. *and a lovely large flat white coffee and savoury scone sat in front of one of the two open fires in the Ballroom Cafe afterwards was just perfect on a particularly chilly spring day!! Hubby enjoyed it too! Highly recommend.
Beautiful grounds, house and views. Excellent value for money.
We had previously been to Larnach Castle and the weather was foggy so we couldn't see the view and it doesn't disappoint , So an absolute must do when in Dunedin.
Totally must do to anyone visiting Dunedin. The castle, it’s manicured gardens and stunning views over the coastline.
Fantastic experience. Friendly staff, from the gate entrance through.V We had a high tea,in the ballroom, which was faultless.Lovely experience. Thank you for a fantastical day.
Despite the rain, we had a great time looking inside and outside the castle. At first we thought it’d be a fairly quick affair, and gave ourselves (2 couples), an hour to do the inside and outside. That was quickly extended after we started to allow us more time to look through the gardens. A really nice way to spend a few hours. I’d recommend taking the toad along the water rather than the very narrow inland one. Views are again amazing and you’ll go past a memorial for soldiers which has Panasonic views over Dunedin from the top.
A very special place, well worth a visit. The gardens are great but the castle is something else.
Loved it!! Amazed at a home (castle) so beautiful was built so long ago here in NZ. The history was also very interesting. Definitely recommend.
A big thanks to the owners for preserving this part of Dunedin history for public. It's a good place to visit at any season.
The grounds, gardens, views, and Larnach Castle are beautiful. It's a great way to spend the whole day or just a few hours. You can take your own picnic or eat at the cafe which is really reasonably priced. The staff are a great asset too friendly and helpful. And I have to say I enjoyed looking for the Alice in Wonderland characters too. :)
Awesome place to visit, enjoyed the history of the place and the surrounding area was lovely. Great to see that it’s slowly been restored.
Fantastic! Great restored building with amazing details and furniture from the past. Highly recommended.
Amazing experience! A must-do if you’re in Dunedin
Beautiful building, excellent narrative of history
It was such a pleasant place to visit. The hardens were lovely. The castle was just amazing and reading the history tied the whole place together. The view from the turret was mind blowing. Will go back again next time we are in Dunedin.
Highly recommended lovely gardens beautiful scenery the castle is amazing they are doing a great job of preserving it
