A short heli hop from the township of Franz Josef takes you into the remarkable Pinnacles area of the glacier.

Here your guide will navigate you through a maze of ice and explain the dramatic environmental changes over the last few years.

You will explore the awe-inspiring landscape in this incredible experience through the Franz Josef Glacier.

This is one of the highest demand activities anywhere in New Zealand, so bookings are essential!


Duration: Allow up to 4.5 hours for the whole experience.

Location: Your journey starts at our glacier base on Cron Street in the Franz Josef Village.

  • Minimum age: 10

  • We have a strict weight limit of 115kg/254lbs. Due to health and safety reasons we are unable to guide pregnant women on the hike. The minimum age for this trip is 8 years old (Children also must be 137cm tall and at least 35kg). Please inform us of any medical conditions, prior to booking..

Bad Weather Refunds

  • If your experience is cancelled by the operator (because of the bad weather, safety concerns, unscheduled maintenance etc) you will be entitled to a full refund.

    Due to the high demand nature of this product, the rapidly changing weather, and the frequent departures, bookings made via the Bookme system will be subject to a further confirmation which will specify the exact departure time. This confirmation will arrive via the email address made at the time of booking with Bookme. Please check you Junk Mail or contact the operator if you do not receive a final confirmation email.

    We require a minimum of 4 people to operate our tour. On very rare occasions, the operator reserves the right to reschedule or refund the trip, however, every safe and reasonable endeavor will be made to operate.

    We have a 24hr booking cancellation policy. Any bookings cancelled within 24 hours of the trip departure time will not receive a refund. There will be no refunds on 'no show' bookings.

    Moderate fitness level is recommended.

    Bookings with children: Due to glacier and weather conditions the guidelines for children may change and participation in the hike is ultimately the decision of the lead guide on the day. To give the best chance of participation, we recommend all parties travelling with children book our trips from 11 AM onwards. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Almost got trolled by the weather!

Awesome guided tour! Our guide was very friendly and have learnt heaps about the glacier. The complimentary spa pool access was such a good way to unwind after walking with the heavy boots. Highly recommended!
