Experience the natural beauty of Kapiti Island on a guided day trip including a delicious cooked lunch.
Departing Paraparaumu a short Ferry ride brings us to Waiorua Bay on Kapiti Island. The island has an interesting history from the arrival of the Maori to the eradication of rats to create this pest-free nature reserve.
On arrival, there will be an introductory talk on the island's history followed by a 1-hour walk led by an experienced nature guide who will help you identify the surrounding flora and fauna.
Once you have worked up an appetite stop at the lodge for a relaxed cooked lunch and enjoy our famous hospitality. Have your camera at the ready to snap some pics of some of New Zealand's most endangered bird species including Takahe, Kaka, Weka, Tieke (Saddleback), Kereru, Kakariki and Toutouwai (Robin).
The ferry will return you to Paraparaumu beach at approximately 3pm.

I would definitely do this trip again. The Island is great and the hosting Family is very nice! If you have the time to do it, I would recommend the overnight stay there and find some Kiwis in the wild. If you don't have the time, the day trip is wonderful too!
Kia ora Marleen, Thanks for your review! We really appreciate the feedback. Ngā mihi, Danielle
We had a guided tour day on the island, that was a great day! The guide was excellent, lively and passionate (he actually lives on the island and his ancestors have owned a land here for years). The food for lunch was very good (buffet) and most important, we were able to see a lot of birds, the conservation/preservation work done in the reserve is impressive! We don't regret our money ;)

Mr Rex jones
My dad, rex jones thought the experience was great. The walk to the top of the trail for older walkers(over 70s) was really too hard for him. rex thought older people should really be cautioned on the steepness and the time at slow walking pace. Thankyou.
