Bike The Roaring Lion Trail - Day Pass - Welcome Rock

• Trail Info: On average it takes about 3-5 hours to bike the trail - we recommend allowing an entire day 5-6 hours to complete the loop and have time for breaks and photos.

  Gradient 3-5 Degrees Altitude.

  Minimum 867 metres and maximum 1152 metres.

  Elevation gain and loss 543 meters.

  The trail is dual-use and suitable for walkers also with a medium to a good level of fitness.

  Subalpine trail - please ensure you take adequate food and clothing as conditions may change rapidly.

  Dogs and horses are not allowed on the property as this is a working farm and a nationally-protected area.

  Parking: You can park at the Historic Ski Hut Located on the Nevis Road. We cannot guarantee the safety of your vehicle and please make sure all personal possessions are hidden from view if left in the vehicle.

  Facilities: There are currently three toilet facilities. There is a basic toilet at the Department of Conservation Historic Southland Ski hut at the start of the trail on the Nevis Road. The remaining basic toilet is located near the huts along the trail. We recommend using the upgraded public toilets located in Garston.

  Water: There is creek fed water along the trail at the Mud Hut. Along the way, there are several creeks that run throughout summer these are located on the trail map. All running creek water is safe and exceptionally good for drinking.

  Open: Our opening hours are 7am - 6pm. All riders and walkers must leave the property by 6pm.
