  • Walk through New Zealand's largest dome aviary - you'll even see unique Tuatara reptiles, which pre-dated the dinosaurs, basking in the summer sunshine.
  • Wander along the Park's tree-lined paths and see a great range of New Zealand native birds - Kea, Kaka, Kakariki (parakeets) native wood pigeons, waterfowl and so much more!
  • We are just 15 minutes from the world-famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves, Black Water Rafting and cave eco-tours.

    The Otorohanga Kiwi House is a truly authentic New Zealand nature experience owned and operated by a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of New Zealand's native wildlife through education, display and breeding programs.

    War schon mal besser

    Ich kannte das Kiwi Hause schon und habe es besser in Erinnerung. Wir kamen erst gegen 15.00 Uhr an aber es war schon alles so als ob jeden Moment die Türen geschlossen werden. Leider konnte man auch die Vögel in der großen Voliere nicht mehr füttern und allgemein die Käfige machten einen sehr alten und zu kleinen Eindruck.

    Habe Kiwis gesehen, was der primäre Grund für meinen Besuch war, ein schöner Park mit vielen "native species" aus Neuseeland. Solange einem klar ist, dass der Park nur recht klein ist, macht man mit einem Besuch nichts falsch.

    Sehr schöne Atmosphäre und eine gute Gelegenheit die Kiwis wirklich mal zu sehen, da sie nachtaktiv sind und somit in freier Wildbahn nur selten gesichtet werden. Es gibt auch noch andere Vogelarten dort zu besichtigen,für mich persönlich waren aber nur die Kiwis wirklich interessant.

    Heimeliger Vogel- und Kleinreptilienpark

    Endlich Kiwis! Wir sind zur Aaalfütterung um 14:30 gekommen; der Pfleger hat uns jede Menge Interessantes dazu erzählt. Die Zeit bis zur Nachmittagsfütterung des Big Spotted Kiwi (15:30) verging wie im Fluge; die Pflegerin erzählte viel Wissenswertes über Kiwis und ihre Lebensbedingungen in der Natur wie im Zoo. Außer in kleineren Gehegen sahen wir auch viele einheimische Vögel quasi "im Freien". Der Park ist ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen, wird aber von einem sehr motivierten, erfahrenen und auskunftsfreudigen Mitarbeiterstamm geführt. Zuletzt hat uns die nette Dame an der Auskunft noch persönlich zu den kleinen Brown Kiwis geführt. Ein sehr sympathisches Ausflugsziel!
