If you have dreamt of flying, you can make your dreams come true at iFLY in their state-of-the-art skydiving wind tunnel. Defy gravity with skill and style in their convenient Queenstown location.
Have you always wanted to try skydiving but don’t want to risk jumping out of an actual, moving plane? Try indoor skydiving at iFLY Queenstown, where you can experience all the plummeting, free-fall and soaring sensations of skydiving without even getting on a plane.
This indoor skydiving experience puts you in a vertical wind tunnel, so you can float weightlessly in space and feel the thrill of a simulated skydive. While you free-fall you’ll experience an unforgettable adrenaline rush in totally safe surroundings.
First, you arrive at iFLY and get geared up, you will be fitted into a flight suit, get your helmet strapped on and adjust your protective goggles to fit. With the guidance of their ultra-compassionate instructors, you’ll receive an introductory training session so you can get the most out of your adventure and then it’s time to step into the wind tunnel.
The instructor accompanies you inside so that they can assist you during your flight. Next, you’re lifted off your feet as the chamber fills with rushing wind. Remember what you learned during training to help achieve proper technique as you hover above the ground and spin through the air. Once you nail the basics, the wind tunnel can become your playground, enjoy the thrilling flight before touching back down on solid ground and catch your breath so that you can do it all over again.
So how does it work?
A vertical wind tunnel has fans at the top to draw air through the flight chamber and then push it back down the sides through Return Air Towers (RATs). The air is ‘turned’ from the RATs into the bottom of the tunnel (plenum) and back up toward the flight chamber through an inlet contractor. The inlet contractor reduces the space the air can travel in, thus compressing and speeding up the air before it re-enters the flight chamber. The result: a smooth column of air that enables you to fly.
Thank you for the 5 stars! We are so happy to hear you all enjoyed yourselves. We keep the High flight, photos and videos as optional extras as not everyone wants to go up high but its definitely a flyer favorite - so much fun!
I am terrified of heights so this was quite an experience for me. Murph (sp?) helped me into the cage and in a short time I was flying to the top of the cage and looking down! Never thought I could do that!! I loved it. My husband went a step further and experienced the virtual base jumping/wingsuiting, as well. He said it was amazing. I would encourage everyone to try this, even if you have a fear of heights. This activity really opened me up to trying some more adventurous things.
Super fun. Will definitely do it again.
Was a good and fun experience but very over priced for what it was.
Great fun
