Experience this fascinating Northland river town in the comfort and control of a converted self-drive golf cart. Cruise the historic unused railway line between Dargaville and Tangowahine for a relaxing and entertaining adventure along the historic Northern Wairoa River.

A complete contrast to city life, you’ll be able to sit back, relax and soak in the tranquillity of the region as you cruise historical sights and peaceful farmland. An authentic experience of one of New Zealand’s favourite rural towns.

  • If your experience is cancelled by the operator (because of the bad weather, safety concerns, unscheduled maintenance etc) you will be entitled to a full refund.

  • Please Note: A minimum of 2x people are required for bookings, single bookings may be waitlisted.

    Track Distance: 28km return

    Departures: Tuesdays - Sundays 10:45am from Station Road, Dargaville

    Seating Capacity: Each Cart can carry up to 4 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children, or 2 adults and 3 smaller sized children. Only your group members will share your cart.

    What to Bring: For those who want to take the wheel, you will need to bring a valid driving license. Warm clothing, enclosed footwear (no open-toed shoes), windbreaker and camera.

  • Children under 6 years travel free with a paying adult.

Fabulous day

Lovely, friendly & informative. Highly recommend anyone to do it that loves travel on the railway tracks. Scenery was beautiful. Hidden little gem.

Worth visiting

We had a lovely time with the children, one hour each way, went through a stretch of unused railway, passed few farms, bridges, road crossings. Recommend for children 4 and above, as it could be a bit challenging for the younger riders to sit still the whole time. Overall great experience!
