Escape the crowds and discover the magic of Mou Waho Island.
Where you can find an island, on a lake, on an island, on a lake, on an island on the sea!
Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve and is home to many native New Zealand birds including the curious and flightless Weka. A short thirty minute walk takes you to the top of the island where you will be exposed to breathtaking panoramic views of the Arethusa pool, Lake Wanaka and its surrounding peaks.
Bring your swimwear and take a dip in the stunning lake on the top of the island, or in Lake Wanaka!
Our water taxi leaves Wanaka Marina twice-daily travelling 15km up Lake Wanaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the steep cliff of fisherman's cove to Mou Waho Island. Your friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you of the fascinating geology of the alps and the glaciers that created the lake as you travel along its sparkling waters. Enjoy 1.5 hours exploring the Island and hiking to the hidden lake!

Great trip, skipper was fantastic and told us all kinds of interesting stuff about the area. Definitely recommend.
Great explanations and the tour was perfectly timed.
I got a bit of help from my hotel to book a trip with Wanaka Water Taxis to go to Mou Waho Island the day before the trip. Alas they cancelled on me 40 minutes before I was due to go because another group pulled out and their weren't enough people (only me) to warrant going on the trip. I have still not been refunded for my trip which I paid for in advance, a week and a half later. Not impressive service I have to say!
I like the hiking and boating combo.Captain told us historic stories and the formation of the Wānaka area, though we missed some part because we are not native English speaker, but it is fine.

Informative narration on the ride up to the island from the friendly and engaging skipper. Gorgeous views from the island lookout.
