Beginning with a convenient pick-up by your friendly, highly knowledgeable guide, our small group starts the scenic drive to Kawerau via Hongi’s Track, passing by famous Rotorua sights including Lake Rotorua, Rotoiti, and Rotoehu.

After entering Tarawera Forest, we will drive to the majestic Tarawera Falls - make sure to have your camera ready to capture this magical location! Next, we drive toward Whakatane and stop at the Red Barn Cafe for a tasty lunch, before heading over the Matahina Dam, through Kaingaroa Pine Forest to Minginui.

Upon reaching the Whirinaki Ancient Forest you will be in awe! This ancient forest is a testament to New Zealand’s flora and fauna history, and its majestic presence stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the great forests of the world.

Take a walk through the towering trees and try to spot rare birds - depending on the time remaining you can even walk the track to the breath-taking Waiatiu Falls where another amazing photo opportunity awaits.

You can then enjoy the relaxing journey back to Rotorua through Murupara, Kaingaroa Village and past Rainbow Mountain - it's the perfect day out!

Due to road blocks, Tarawera Forest may not be an option. The operator will confirm which Pine Forest you will visit on the day.
