They get away with this because most people are tourists and will never say anything or be back. I felt this was definitely a tourist trap and locals in hokitika laughed at me stating it's a place you go once and never again due to prices and the fact it's not very exciting The company says to tag them on Facebook and then blocked me because of the above poem being used on my post. They didn't appreciate my poetic review. You can definitely go and experience it for yourself but this is my honest opinion and review of the place.
