Confinement Taupo offers 4 exciting escape rooms with unique themes, storylines and clues as well as outdoor scavenger hunt's perfect for people who enjoy problem-solving games, birthdays, corporate team building and stags or hens do's.
We are located in central Taupo and are the first Escape Room in New Zealand to achieve a Qualmark certification.
Our fully themed escape rooms have regularly changing clues meaning you can come back again and again for a fresh new challenge every time. Get your team together and put your detective hats on to see if you can solve the clues and puzzles to escape in 60 minutes or less...
The Hunting Lodge
Last Clue Change: June 2022
Difficulty Levels: Standard 4/5
Storyline: Attention Detectives, important update: A double murder has taken place at an AirBnB called "The Hunting Lodge." The crime scene is very disturbing. Your task is to catch the criminal quickly. We have only 60 minutes to solve this before it's made public. Failure is not an option. Find the killer, solve the case, and bring them to justice!
Suitability: *This room will need parental discretion for children aged 8-13. Please note there is fake blood/’gory’ props etc in this room that may cause distress.This room is dark, and those with poor eyesight may find it difficult.

Excellent
Thought it would keep the kids quiet for an hour, but it didn't there was a lot of noise and excitement. Grandma (me) could not do it, but the youngsters loved it. We needed a bit more than the hour and fortunately no one was booked in behind us so we were not obliged to leave and completed it with only a little help. I think the Hunting Lodge is one of the more difficult ones, so if first timers suggest something a bit simpler. But staff were very helpful and it was nice having that extra time, would have been disappointed that we were so close.

Great afternoon activity
This was a fun family activity with our 10 year old. Almost completed it in time but just missed out.

Good escape room
We enjoyed The Hunting Lodge escape room. Took us a while to get into it as found the participants in the adjacent room very noisy and distracting which I have never encountered before doing an escape room. Could be solved with a roof being added to the first room). Enjoyed the storyline (not scary - just a murder mystery). Not claustrophobic at all. Found a couple of the steps a bit obscure and wouldn't have finished without the cheat help - or possibly actually more collaboration / sharing of clues found etc. Nice staff - very relaxed. Keen to try another room when next in Taupo.

Challenging but Fun
Went there last 22nd September 2024 - Sunday, with my little family, my husband and 2 kids. We all had fun. Some hints are challenging but the feeling of solving the case was fulfilling. The kids were very into it to find the next hint. It was a good activity for family to work as a team and help each other. The staff was very helpful if we got stuck in some hints. Will go back again to try other Case.

Fantastic family fun
Well kept Escape room, everything worked. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Would highly recommend the Hunting Lodge room. Staff explained everything well & were friendly.
