Wings over Whales Kaikoura provide whale watching and scenic flights, getting you up close and personal with the magnificent Sperm Whales off the coast of Kaikoura, New Zealand. With a year-round population of Sperm Whale, Dusky Dolphins and other visiting whale and dolphin species, Kaikoura is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places for your whale watching experience.
Wings Over Whales have a professional and friendly team and premises who are committed to passenger safety and enjoyment. Endorsed GOLD standard by Qualmark (New Zealand’s official tourism quality assurance organisation) passengers at Wings Over Whales can be confident of a great experience. A cup of free hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate available for booked guests.
All passengers will have their own window seat and the company operate high-winged aircraft which permits clear unobstructed viewing of Kaikoura’s incredible whales and marine life. During your flight whales and dolphins will be orbited at a height of 150 metres (or 500ft) giving you the opportunity to clearly see and photograph these animals from head to tail.
Wings Over Whales have been conducting whale watching flights for over 30 years and are the longest running and most experienced commercial aerial whale watching company in Kaikoura. While there is no 100% guarantee to see a whale on every flight, we have a solid understanding of the whales’ surfacing habits and a very high success rate. Motion sickness ruined it for me
This was a brilliant experience but I very quickly started to get quite bad motion sickness after we started circling the one whale we spotted. Going round and round one way then round and round again the other was not the best. Im not usually sick but I was sweating so much. He very quickly brought us down to the ground after I said I wasn't feeling great, which I was so grateful for. I wish I hadn't felt do bad up there, it was a great experience otherwise.

Amazing Experience - a must do!!
This experience was incredible, everything from the experience of being in the little plane to seeing a sperm whale and numerous blue whales and helping the pilot spot the whales! The Mountain views on the way back were also incredible and the information provided by the pilot was great! I was also surprised at how smooth the plane landed. This has been my favourite experience of my 3 weeks in NZ, and if I am able to come back I would definitely do this again 😍

Great experience
A big thank you to the entire team for the wonderful experience! We had such a great day enjoying the beautiful views, and we were lucky enough to spot a sperm whale. I highly recommend this company – I truly believe they do everything they can to increase the chances of seeing a whale. It’s important to remember that they're not tracking or chasing the whales, but simply trying to be a part of the amazing beauty that nature offers us. There are times when sightings don’t happen, but we were fortunate to have an incredible experience. Thank you again – it was amazing! :)

Quick glimpse
All the crew were lovely, flight in the small plane was a neat little experience, got to see one blue whale for a few minutes. Next time round we'll try the boats.

What a brilliant experience
Fantastic day for the morning flight. We saw a sperm whale and docens or even hundreds of dolphins. The pilot and team were very professional and made sure we enjoyed the experience from the first minute. The also picked me up from the harbour and took me back to town which I really appreciated as I my travelling schedule was tight. I definitely recommend :)
