Embark on an exciting canoe and kayaking adventure along the Okura River and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Auckland’s landscapes!

Just north of Auckland, this protected stretch of coastline provides the perfect setting to witness the stunning mangroves and marine life at play. Soak in the sweeping views of the Okura Scenic Bush Reserve and the forgotten and hidden valleys, as you paddle through breathtaking surroundings. Keep an eye out for majestic stingrays lounging in the shallow waters, mullet leaping through the air, and some of New Zealand’s rarest coastal seabirds in their natural habitat!

Bring the whole family on this family-friendly guided tour, ideal for beginners and conducted in calm, safe waters suitable for children aged 11 and over. No prior kayaking experience is necessary! With a guide-to-customer ratio of 1:10 in double kayaks, you can paddle with confidence.

Duration

  • Allow approximately 2 hours for the whole experience

Location

  • Start Location: Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve (25 minutes north of Auckland).
  • Specific meeting location is arranged closer to tour departure due to tides / weather conditions.

Restrictions

  • Minimum age: 11
  • Suitable for children 11+ but must be accompanied by an adult.

    Younger children are welcome if the conditions are suitable, but you must contact Canoe & Kayak directly after booking to check the conditions on the day and if possible, add them on directly.

  • If your experience is cancelled by the operator (because of the bad weather, safety concerns, unscheduled maintenance etc) you will be entitled to a full refund.
