Since there was no one else that booked for this tour, it became a private and personal tour! Mary's a really great tour guide. She's been around for 3 years and I can see she really loves her job! I learned about a lot of things from her from this tour, which is certainly more than just a feed-animal-farm-tour! It was an experience seeing a pine cone as big as a durian and a pineapple, and also the antlers of a 7 yr old deer, drank 99.8% pure water from the refreshing river and ate some pure honey still with the wax in it! Just ask any questions and Mary would know the answer! My favourite was getting to meet Buster (and Chief the bully haha)! They're retired horses and Buster's such a lovely horse.

This was .. a couple of hours out of the wind (in the van), peppered with some nice views you probably wouldn't get to see if you went tramping or discovering Tekapo by yourself. Apart from that the tour was extremely uninformative, we did not actually get to see any part of a working farm, much less got any insight into the workings of one. Basically you're driven around and vaguely shown the estate from the van window "on your left there should be some cows, but they just moved them to another field" and at the end you get some food with which you can feed 3 alpakas, a few sheep and chickens. Yay! My advice for the tour would be - if you have nothing to say and nothing to show (apart from some nice Instagram worthy views), maybe shorten the experience, possibly down to 30 minutes instead of the ardous 2.5h. I shouldn't complain, the day was super windy and we didn't mind sleeping in the van out of the wind for a couple of hours.
My partner didn't want to do a farm tour when I booked, but this is nothing like the farm experience you do in rotorua. Our tour was more like a nature tour on the massive farm, our guide Bonnie was super energetic and friendly, she talked about the animals on the farm, plants, land, what the farm does and also showing us some farm produce etc. The views are stunning, Bonnie also talked about the town and bit of history of it. I would recommend doing this on the first day in tekapo, Bonnie was so helpful in suggesting things to do. One walk we took out of our schedule but Bonnie recommended it so we fit it back in, it was the best walk for our whole trip! The last part of the tour was fun, we got to hand feed the animals on the farm. I would do it again when I'm there next time.
