Immerse yourself in the echoes of the past while soaking in the stunning scenery and rich stories of the Gorge!
Step aboard Dunedin Railways and explore Otago’s breathtaking landscapes and fascinating history. The Taieri Gorge train trip is renowned as one of New Zealand’s most spectacular rail experiences and a top attraction in Dunedin!
Departing from the city’s iconic railway station, the train winds through vast countryside and into the heart of the Taieri Gorge. Along the way, you'll enjoy sweeping panoramic views, a sightseeing stop at Pukerangi, and the convenience of an onboard café. It's an all-weather adventure that’s perfect for travellers of all ages.
Whether you're passionate about trains, nature, or just after a unique adventure – this scenic rail journey is an absolute must!
Cosy train, well structured , it was difficult to understand what the guide was saying but the trip was pleasant and the view was awesome. We strong recommend.
Let's face it there are not many trains operating on New Zealand's railways but of those that do this is worth seeing. Lots of "oh my gosh, or cor wow, look at that"! Incredible views and admiration for the engineers who built it and keep it open. There is still quite a bit of railway infrastructure in NZ but passenger trains are about as rare as the Kakapo. NZ really ought to use its railway network more and get us away from our cars and aircraft. By the way the Dunedin station building is impressive; even if there are only two trains that operate from it!
Lovely afternoon. Great scenery and interesting to learn the history of the railway. Railway staff very helpful and friendly!
The only way to see the very scenic Taieri Gorge with funny and informative commentary along the way. Tasty food which gets cheaper on the return journey. Whatever you do don't forget your camera.

Julie and Maria miss the best bit
Loved the trip up to Pukerangi and were looking forward to enjoying the trip back especially the rocky gorge as we hoped to be outside,, while we were waiting on the return trip for food, we were in the buffet car and on return to our seats realised the best bit was already past. We felt like a couple of dolts but laughed. Well worth the money. Thank you. Just a suggestion for the food and coffee service. a supply of Nescafe coffee sticks would have been most welcome in place of a barista coffee (which wasn't on offer) and easy enough. Otherwise 10 out of 10
