Waimak River Riding Centre is a family-run operation and is the closest horse trek business to Christchurch city.

Located within the Christchurch City limits you can be forgiven for thinking you are in the middle of nowhere. The lower reaches of the Waimakariri River are noted for their large braided river beds, bird colonies and stunning glacial blue waters!.

Our trails take you past the patchwork paddocks and hedge windbreaks typical of the Canterbury plains, through the lush foliage of the woodlands next to the river and out onto the expansive river bed. With the river permitting we will guide you through the crystal clear waters where we can water the horses and enjoy the unique sensation of river crossing on horseback.

Twice as much to see and experience on this two-hour ride! We have horses to suit all abilities so you can choose the pace that suits you (a leisurely stroll or trot /canter) and soak up the stunning scenery and great riding spaces along the Waimakariri River.

Our experienced guides will lead the way through this beautiful area and take photo's along the wayand will be sent to your email address.

Bad Weather Refunds

If your experience is cancelled by the operator (because of the bad weather, safety concerns, unscheduled maintenance etc) you will be entitled to a full refund.

Notes

IMPORTANT: When booking please provide level of riding ability, height and weight of each rider (our weight limit is 90kg) and whatever other information you may deem necessary (e.g disability), so we can prepare the most appropriate horse(s) for you. Failure to supply this information may result in the appropriate horse not being available and if so, no refunds will be due.
Our Riding Centre is located alongside the Waimakariri (Waimak) River on the Northern boundary of the Christchurch City limit - Just 15 minutes drive from the central city.
Please note check-in is 30 minutes prior to departure time.

Do it if u inexperienced

A really good experience Girls were friendly and informative. Safety was paramount and the pre ride brief made all comfortable before heading out. Horses were all in great condition. Recommend and if u wish to trot etc let them know when u book .

Incredible experience and their staff and horses are simply amazing. The horses are happy and extremely well looked after and our guide Paige went out of her way to make tge trek amazing for us. A must do for anyone of any riding ability.
