Waimak River Riding Centre Limited is a professionally run operation with safety at a high standard and is the closest horse trek business to Christchurch city.
Located within the Christchurch City limits you can be forgiven for thinking you are in the middle of nowhere. The lower reaches of the Waimakariri River are noted for their large braided river beds, bird colonies and stunning glacial blue waters!
Our trails take you past the patchwork paddocks and hedge windbreaks typical of the Canterbury plains, through the lush foliage of the woodlands next to the river and out onto the expansive river bed. With the river permitting we will guide you through the crystal clear waters where we can water the horses and enjoy the unique sensation of river crossing on horseback.
You can take this all in from the back of your trusty mount, especially chosen for your level of riding ability to ensure a safe and exciting experience. Choose the pace that suits you and soak up the stunning scenery and great riding spaces along the Waimakariri River.

Great experience
Lovely guide, who gave us a little background on the horses and the area. Would have loved more time along the river, but it takes time to get to and from the river, so I understand that that time has to be taken into consideration.

Rude and arrogant owner
Owner called to reschedule twice, had to reschedule whole trip due to this. The day for the trek finally comes and the owner sends a text about how staff is sick and need to reschedule and asks if she can call later. She does not call neither does she answer her call and when she finally did told me that the staff is sick and there's not enough time for her to contact everyone. Also ends the conversation by saying the only option is a refund but let's see if i do actually get my refund. Horrible

Gemütlicher Ausritt
Der Ausritt war war gut organisiert. Die Teilnehmer wurden zügig mit Helmen und Pferden ausgestattet. Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass unser Tourguide uns gut unterhalten hat. Sie gab Informationen zu den Pferden, die wir ritten sowie zur Umgebung und zu einzelnen Pflanzen, die wir passierten. Sie zeigte sich äußerst interessiert an uns und suchte die Kommunikation. Besonders für Anfänger war der Trail gut geeignet.
