Kate K said... We don't normally like tours as we're pretty outdoorsy and have found we get much more value out of doing things ourselves. But we were in Auckland for only 2.5 days so we had to be efficient. We had heard great things about the West coast+the Wiatakere ranges from others, so did quite a bit of googling ahead of time, we called up black sand adventures and talked to Shaun and decided to book it. I can honestly say this was the best day tour I've been on. The itinerary will depend on everyone's skills, adventurousness and the weather. We got lucky with a beautiful sunny day and a cooler afternoon, with rain coming in as we were leaving. It was perfect for everything we did: ocean (neat secluded beach that we wouldn't have found ourselves), then hiked to a beautiful lunch spot, (no words to describe it), took off and hiked a bit of the Waitakere Ranges (swam at the waterfall with Pictures to prove it :). Absolutely loved the whole experience and would highly recommend it.
