Experience MOTAT’s calendar of activities and exhibitions, with plenty of hands-on stuff to get stuck into.
MOTAT is New Zealand’s largest transport and technology museum and offers a fun and exciting learning experience for all ages.
Explore past, present and future technology and ingenuity through interactive exhibitions, take a stroll through the historic village and enjoy a ride on a heritage tram.
Amongst the exhibitions to explore is Love / Science where you can discover the stories behind some clever technology, and Tūhuratia Exploded, which features exploded view photo artwork by Richard Parry of gaming consoles and more.
Explore, discover and spark imaginations at the museum inspiring the innovators of tomorrow!
Thanks for this positive feedback Charley! We love seeing parents and their tamariki having fun at MOTAT.
Thanks you for your review. That is great to hear you enjoyed such good family time at MOTAT. Please come again soon.
Would have loved to be able to explore the aviation area, but was told that it was closed. Otherwise it was a great experience.
Kia ora Gemma, Thanks so much for the feedback! Our Aviation Hall will be reopening soon, we hope to see you back to explore :)
Wasn’t sure what to expect but didn’t expect it to be really disappointing - lot of things not open and the things that were open, I was bored out of my mind. Even my 6 year old daughter asked if we could leave early. I will never visit motat again in my life time - cost is definitely overpriced for what you get to see!!!
Kia ora. Sad to hear that MOTAT is not a good fit for your interests. We hope you took a tram ride, saw our exhibitions and interacted with our digital aspects. Our exhibition Love/Science is designed to engage visitors with both the science and the stories behind technology and innovation. Our Aviation Display Hall reopens in July.
Most exhibits closed for renovations, don’t know why these wouldn’t be done 1 at a time? How many phone exchange displays etc does one venue need? MOTAT has lost the fun experience of yesteryear. Where have all the old trucks, trains, and other displays gone? Main Street shops closed etc. This was once a museum, as per its name. Museums are meant to be full of the past? Overall very disappointing
Kia ora, sorry to hear you did not have a good experience. We have been impacted by the pandemic and look forward to these projects being complete mid 2022.
