Step back in time and soak up the ambiance of days gone by at the Howick Historical Village!

A unique ‘Living History’ Museum, presenting the stories of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's early settlers in a hands-on and immersive way, visitors can explore authentic 1840s cottages, homesteads, schools, church, a smithy, a general store and more, all set in charming heritage gardens.

Learn skills from the past in interactive demonstrations with costumed guides at 11am on Saturdays and Sundays, and drop in craft sessions at 1-3pm on Sundays. Activities include butter making, candle making, rope laying, Wash Day, ‘Fetch the Water’ and more!Help feed the chooksdaily at 10:45am.

Kids can play old fashioned outdoor games andmake something fun in self-guided craft sessions.A packed schedule of additional activities takes place during School Holidays. Bring a picnic or have brunch or lunch in the café, explore the site and make a day of it!

For the full experience visit on the LIVE DAY. Every 2nd Sunday of the month, meet costumed Villagers, churn butter, make candles, attend a school lesson. Watch the blacksmiths, bakers and bookbinders at work. Attractions and interactive activities take place throughout the day.

  • Valid for general admission everyday including Live Days. Not valid for special events and ticketed programming.

    Activities:

    No bookings required for Butter Making activity. Free with entry but donations are welcome or support us by purchasing something in the gift shop.

    Please note that the capacity is limited for Gifts from the Garden and Candle making. Gifts from the Garden is an extra charge of $10 per person and Candle Making is an extra charge of $6 per person.

    Open: Tuesday - Sunday 10am-4pm (last entry 3pm). Cafe hours 9am-3pm (kitchen closes at 2pm).

    No dogs permitted (except for guide dogs).

Great family outing

Lovely family day out, kids loved it and my 4 year old got a washing experience she will never have to experience again! Very cool and educational :) we also enjoyed some refreshments at their lovely cafe afterwards, highly recommend!
