From Auckland CBD enjoy a 75-minute ferry ride across the Hauraki Gulf to protected wildlife sanctuary Tiritiri Matangi Island.
Explore the island at your own pace with various walking trails taking you through native forest and to the unspoiled Hobbs Beach which is the perfect location for a swim and a picnic.
Home to 71 species of bird, Tiritiri Matangi is a pest-free haven for New Zealand's most endangered wildlife, you may catch a glimpse of Korora (little blue penguins), Takahē, Kōkako and many others.
Stop in at the visitor centre for guidebooks and souvenirs and visit New Zealand's oldest working lighthouse that was first lit in 1865.
We had a great day out at Tiritiri with Fullers. It was a bumpy ride, but nothing anyone can do about an easterly swell. Our ferry driver on the way home was amazing, and did his/her utmost to avoid some of the worst bumps. The day itself on Tiri exceeded all our expectations, only wish we had known about the little tractor that took the bags up to the visitors centre (I'm not sure if this runs every time the ferry goes?). Thank you to all the volunteers that make it such a great experience. We will be back!
We visited here in the weekend and had an amazing day out. Our kids both thoroughly enjoyed themselves, we had the most lovely guide and saw many rare birds. So inspiring to hear how they have restored the island to what it is today. Our day finished off with a swim at Hobbs Beach was perfect. We would love to come again!
We never got to go. We'd prepaid and Fullers lost the contract and didn't tell us. Absolutely disgusting.
If you've never been to paradise, get here immediately and you can tick it off your bucket list.
