Explore Rangitoto Island at your own pace with a Fullers360 Day Trip to the Island return ferry from Auckland!

Highlights

  • Explore Rangitoto Island with a return Ferry trip from Auckland
  • Walk to the summit of one of Auckland's most iconic landmarks
  • Discover lava caves and shipwrecks in the volcanic landscape
  • Walk between Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands via causeway

Enjoy a day of hiking and exploring on Rangitoto Island - just a 25-minute ferry ride from central Auckland.

Climb to the summit through the lava fields for epic views of the Hauraki Gulf, explore lava caves and the ship graveyard where 13 ships were abandoned between 1887 and 1947.

A causeway connects Rangitoto to Motutapu allowing you to walk between these two islands.

Summit Track - Begins at Rangitoto Wharf following a 3.1km track with a gentle incline to the top. Enjoy views of the volcanic landscape, walk through the world's largest pohutukawa forest and take in the panoramic views from the summit. Allow 2 hours return.

Lava Caves - Add on 45 minutes for this diversion from the Summit Track clearly marked with signs. Bring a torch if you want to explore inside the twisting tunnel!

Rangitoto's Wreck Bay - Visit this heritage site at low tide by following Islington Bay Road over lava fields to the Boulder Bay Track. Allow 2-hours return.

Notes

  • Plan Your Day:

You'll need at least half a day (4-5 hours) to visit Rangitoto Island.

Summit Track - gentle incline to the top, 3.1km - allow 2 hours return.

Lava Caves - add on 45 minutes for this diversion from the Summit Track.

Rangitoto's Wreck Bay - visit this heritage site at low tide by following Islington Bay Road over lava fields to the Boulder Bay Track - allow 2-hours return.

Please check the time of the last ferry at the start of your trip - a clock on the wharf will indicate the last departure each day.

From time to time, adverse weather conditions require us to sail into Islington Bay Wharf instead of Rangitoto Wharf. This means there are some changes to your walking time on the island.

It may take up to an extra hour to walk to and from the summit from Islington Bay, and the track is shared by vehicles. We recommend you plan your walk accordingly and note the time of the last ferry leaving the island.

If you are unsure of which wharf we will be sailing to, please call our customer care team on the morning of your departure.

非常棒

海岸线非常美!由于时间在岛有限(10:00-3:30)不能游完整个岛屿,所以如果各贝之间有ferry,就能节省时间。

Rained off.

Unfortunately heavy rain prevented us from going Friday morning. Took the train into the downtown ferry terminal could not see even a few yards . They’ve advised us that the tickets were not transferable so went home. So will probably not go unless we get another ballot. John & Sally. Howick.

Awesome day

Awesome trip despite the weather, great communication from ferry staff so we were prepared for the day without getting stuck on the island for the night. Could definitely go again and complete more of the walks. Lived the walks and information about the island- perfect spot for a swim after the hike too!
