Take a journey into space at Space Place at Carter Observatory. Their planetarium offers a state of the art, digital experience that’ll take you on an unforgettable journey from Wellington to the outer regions of our Solar System and beyond.

You’ll discover the sheer scale of the Universe and its origins in the Big Bang, the Maori story of creation, and examine the possibility of life on other planets.

Travel through Space Place's very own black hole, handle a space rock and launch a rocket!

This is a fun, interactive and educational experience for the whole family.

Sunday - 10am to 5.30pm
Notes:
Closed on Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, and Christmas Day. Last entry is at 10pm
On Tuesdays and Fridays, Space Place opens at 4pm, for 4pm bookings you are welcome to explore the galleries and learn about the universe until the first show which is at 5pm.
On Weekends Space Place opens at 10am, for 10am bookings you are welcome to explore the galleries and learn about the universe before the first show which is at 11am.

Telescope viewings are held using the Thomas Cooke telescope during late nights (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) as weather permits.

Informative and Entertaining

We went to the Space Planet entry as a family of four. The exhibitions were well laid out in theme areas and included a number of interactive ones. The dome theatre Matariki film and narrative was well put together and informative. A good way to spend an hour or more at the top of the Botanical Gardens.
