Get a glimpse into a pioneering New Zealand family at Wellington’s oldest original cottage.
Built in 1858, Nairn Street Cottage is Wellington's oldest original cottage and is home to the story of the Wallis family who lived there for three generations.
The exhibition features an innovative timeline, revealing what life would be like from 1830-1970. It illustrates the ways in which the first colonial settlers blended their lives from their Victorian homeland with the dictates of a new country.
Outside the cottage is the heritage garden which features plants, fruits, herbs and chickens.
Nairn Street Cottage is within walking distance of the CBD and is at the start of the Aro Valley Heritage Trail.

Absolutely worth climbing the hill for!
I loved it. A small space but also a very small price. I had a fantastic guide who could answer everything I asked and getting to know some history of the house and the family was a brilliant way to spend an hour.
